Getting seeds of ICRISAT’s improved crop varieties into the hands of farmers is an important role played by Catholic Relief Services in Nigeria.
CRS expanded its focus from health and nutrition to include agriculture and livelihoods in 2012 and has since become a valuable ICRISAT partner. The agency has a strong community of seed producers and schemes in Sokoto and Kebi states which ICRISAT uses for its groundnut upscaling program.
The FarmBook business tool developed by CRS is used to inform decision making at the farm level. They are keen to start using Cellulant’s e-wallet for seed vouchers to replace the paper vouchers they are currently using.
A diversified cropping system with legume intercropping offers the opportunity to diversify diets, generate income along with value addition and market integration in Nigeria.
